What I use consistently in my glue shop and don’t think I could live without are three things–the first is ca glue, which is an activator that makes the ca glue set up faster. 

I like them because if you want to apply like a pinch to a piece of wood finishing, well, you squirt some deactivator or d bhandar on the area you want to apply like that and allow it to do its work. 

As it makes its way in, move the thumb around a bit until it frees up, and then you should wash it off your skin as soon as possible. Sometimes you would want to reposition a joint that you just released. 

It didn’t line up perfectly and a debonder will help me do that, so I keep seeing you in my shop because I sometimes work alone and could use a second pair of hands. I just need to stick wood together long enough to get a nail in it. I have some scrap wood here in the shop and it doesn’t take much. I can just take that over there and that will be fine. 

It probably took about 1-2 minutes to bond these two pieces together but let’s be honest. Sometimes, that’s not fast enough for me. I’ve got two pieces of baseboard here, and I want to join them as quickly as possible. To avoid waiting long time, I’ll apply my ca glue a little bit to the edge here. Next, I’m going to spray the mating part with my activator, and then I’m going to join the two together, so I don’t have to worry about the strength of the joint yet because I can nail it later. 

However, it sets up very quickly when you use an activator, but it’s not as strong as if you just used water-based ca glue on its own because when you say glue, you know there’s a little bit of time or adhesive involved. If you use an activator with ca glue, it soaks into the pores of the wood. If you use an activator, you won’t get the same type of hold as if you use ca glue.
